🏘️ Towny Basics

Towny is the system that powers towns, land protection, and nations on TownyAge.

You can join an existing town and build alongside other players, or save up and create a town of your own.

🏑 Towns

A town is a group of players with protected land, a shared town bank, a town spawn, and access to additional features.

You do not need to create your own town to use Towny. Joining someone else's town is a great way to get started without having to manage one yourself.

New towns are private by default, so players must normally be invited before they can join.

Creating your own town costs $2,500.

Use:

/town new [name]

to create a town.

πŸ’‘ Creating a town makes you its Mayor, which comes with additional responsibilities such as maintaining the town bank and managing its land.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Protected Land

Towns can claim sections of the world to protect their builds.

Claimed land is controlled by the town, allowing the Mayor and town leadership to decide who can:

  • Build
  • Break blocks
  • Open containers and use switches
  • Use items
  • Access different plots

This makes towns one of the best ways to protect permanent builds from other players.

🏠 Personal Plots

Land inside a town can also be divided into personal plots.

A town can put land up for sale, allowing a resident to claim that plot as their own.

Personal plots have their own permissions, giving residents more control over who can interact with their home or build.

Useful plot commands include:

CommandDescription
/plot claimClaim a plot that has been put up for sale
/plot unclaimGive up your personal plot
/plot permView the permissions for your current plot

✈️ Town Flight

Residents of towns have access to TownyFlight, allowing you to fly while inside eligible town land.

Use:

/tfly

to toggle TownyFlight.

Your flight is tied to Towny-protected areas, so don't be surprised if your ability to fly changes when leaving protected land.

πŸ’¬ Town Chat

Every town has access to its own private chat channel.

Use:

/tc

to communicate with members of your town without sending the message to general chat.

🏦 The Town Bank

Every town has its own shared bank account.

Town funds are used for expenses such as claiming land and paying the town's upkeep.

Town members can contribute money with:

/town deposit [amount]

Keeping money in the town bank is important, especially as the town grows.

πŸ’° Town Upkeep

Claimed land has a daily upkeep cost.

Larger towns can receive better upkeep rates as their population grows, but expanding your town still means taking on additional expenses.

If a town cannot afford its upkeep, it can enter bankruptcy.

A bankrupt town isn't immediately deleted, but its ability to grow and operate becomes restricted until its debt is repaid.

πŸšͺ Leaving a Town

If you decide that a town isn't right for you, you can leave with:

/town leave

Remember that land belonging to the town stays with the town when you leave.

🌎 Nations

Multiple towns can also work together by forming a Nation.

Nations provide another level of cooperation between towns, including shared chat, easier travel between member towns, and additional progression bonuses.

See the Nations page for more information.
